Oh boy, I've only gone and made the eighth annual instalment of A Very Erik Kennedy Christmas. If you want to know how this caper went the seven previous times, the evidence is here: 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 I worry sometimes that I am becoming like those food bloggers who write 2,000 words of unnecessary backstory before finally giving you a subpar recipe for a vegan Wellington. What I should be doing is simply saying 'here is the music' and then giving you the music. We are all very busy, after all, and even those of us who aren't actually that busy have to pretend that we are. Such is Christmas under late capitalism. So what I have done once again is searched the deepest recesses of archive.org to find public domain Christmas music that I consider, erm, interesting. I have picked twelve tracks as stocking-fillers to hang off the mantelpiece of erikkennedy.com. This year's mix opens with a bluegrass meditation on the mortality of Santa Claus, and it closes with a crooner gloompop plaint on seasonal lonesomeness. In between, does it cover all the other possibilities of human experience? Maybe it does, friends. Maybe it does. May this be a good Christmas for you. XOXO As a ZIP. Or track by track (length 38.41): 01. Jimmy Martin - Daddy, Will Santa Claus Ever Have to Die? 02. Luis Bordón - Boas Festas 03. Slim Boyd and the Rangehands - A Santa Claus Greeting 04. Phillips 66 Presents Tijuana Christmas - March of the Reindeer 05. Liane Augustin - Leise Fällt der Schnee ins Land 06. Jeff Stoughton and His Lake Placid Club Orchestra - North Pole Town 07. Daphne Hellman Quartet - Poinciana 08. The Osmonds - This Christmas Eve 09. Ely Camargo - Quatro Cantos do Reizado do Piauí 10. The Nic Nacs - Gonna Have a Merry Xmas 11. Glen Moore's Quartette - This Christmas Will Be Wonderful 12. Jimmy Collett - I Don't Want to Be Alone for Christmas Album cover [*] Information, including archive.org links [*] |
